A black-and-white photo of the front pages of The Washington Post and The New York Times.

I was born in Atlanta, raised in its suburbs and currently live in Seoul, where I supervise a small team of editors who help produce the home page of The New York Times.

Before moving to South Korea in 2024, I worked for a decade in the Times’s London newsroom, most recently as an editor on the Express desk, which covers breaking news, trends and other stories (including the opening of Britain’s first Popeyes). I also wrote the U.S. version of the Morning Briefing (the precursor to The Morning) and produced a weekly news quiz. You can find all of my writing for The Times (including a couple of Wordle reviews) here.

I joined The Times in 2013, after working for The Washington Post, The Orlando Sentinel and The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle.

I’m an alum of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, and of its independent student newspaper, The Red & Black. That’s also where I met my wife, Carrie Gibson, who is a writer and historian.
